How an EV charger install runs

Most charger installs go sideways for one of two reasons: the panel could not carry the load, or the run was priced before anyone looked at it. We check both first.

    We open the panel, check available capacity, breaker space and bus rating, and run the load calculation for your home.

    Fixed-price proposal

    Circuit size, run length, mounting location and permit cost in one number, with options if a panel upgrade would serve you better.

    Install day

    Clean conduit routing, correct torque and terminations, charger mounted and commissioned while we are there.

    Test and hand-off

    We charge the vehicle, verify amperage draw, set app limits if the unit supports it, and close the permit.

Do I need a panel upgrade to install a Level 2 charger?+

Not always. Plenty of 200A panels have room for a 48A charger, and many 100A and 125A services can carry one with load management. We run the calculation before recommending an upgrade, because a load-shedding device is often a few hundred dollars against several thousand for new service.

How long does an EV charger installation take?+

A typical garage install next to the panel is a half day. Long runs, detached garages, trenching, or a panel change stretch it to a full day or two. We give you the schedule with the quote.

Hardwired or plug-in NEMA 14-50?+

Hardwiring supports higher amperage, avoids the failure point of a cheap receptacle overheating, and is required by some manufacturers for outdoor units. Plug-in makes sense if you may move or swap units. We will tell you which one your setup calls for.

Do I need a permit for an EV charger in Salt Lake City?+

Yes. Adding a 240V circuit is permitted work in every jurisdiction we serve. We pull it and meet the inspector, which also matters if you ever sell the home or file an insurance claim.

Can you repair an EV charger someone else installed?+

Yes, and it is a large share of our EV work. Nuisance tripping, ground faults, error codes and slow charging usually trace back to conductor sizing, a loose lug or a failing receptacle rather than the charger itself.
