It means the equipment you own, usually the meter socket or mast, failed their inspection. They will not reconnect until a licensed electrician repairs it, the city inspects it and the utility receives the meter release. We handle all three steps.
The utility owns the meter itself. You own the socket it plugs into, the mast, the service conductors on your side and the panel. That is why meter socket repairs are billed to the homeowner.
Typically four to eight hours on the day of the change-out, depending on how fast the utility releases and resets. We schedule the inspector in the same window to avoid an overnight outage.
Usually yes, with utility approval. Cost depends on how far the new location is from the drop or lateral and whether trenching is needed. We confirm with the utility before quoting.
Not necessarily. You can replace a damaged meter base while keeping the same amperage. Increasing amperage means new conductors and usually a new panel too, which is a full service upgrade.
