Hot tub electrical questions
How far does the disconnect have to be from the hot tub?+
The disconnect must be within sight of the spa and at least five feet away from the water, and not more than the distance your jurisdiction specifies. We place it so it is convenient and compliant, which is not always the closest wall.
Can I plug my hot tub into a regular outlet?+
Only plug-and-play 120V models, and even those should be on a dedicated GFCI circuit. A standard 240V spa needs its own hardwired circuit and disconnect. Extension cords are never acceptable.
Do I need a permit to wire a hot tub in Utah?+
Yes. New 240V circuits are permitted work, and spa circuits are inspected closely because of the water. An unpermitted spa circuit is also a common problem discovered during a home sale.
How much does hot tub wiring cost?+
The circuit and disconnect are a predictable cost; the variables are run length, trenching, finished-space routing and whether your panel has capacity. We quote a fixed number after seeing the path.
Can you wire it before the spa arrives?+
Yes, and that is the ideal sequence. We install the circuit and disconnect ahead of delivery, then make the final connection at the spa pack once it is set in place.
